Jane Yates
I work for different organisations in the field of religion and worldviews, Philosophy for Children(P4C), humanism and anti-racism. I am the RE Advisor to Cumbrian SACRE, the North West RE Hubs Lead and have various roles with Humanists UK. I have been involved in the international P4C movement for over 30 years, and work as a P4C trainer for Thoughtful (previously known as SAPERE). My teaching experience includes being a primary RE lead and most recently I was part of a secondary RE department, teaching KS3 pupils. I am a facilitator and volunteer with Anti Racist Cumbria.
My PhD studentship at the University of Cumbria is about Social Justice in Education: decolonising in a particular educational context. I am interested in exploring the value of developing an ethos of ‘untranslatability’ in the RE classroom, as a contribution to decolonising approaches. This builds on embryonic research I conducted as part of the Culham Leadership Programme.
