Aimee Tinkler
Aimee has over 20 years of experience in education, including 12 years as a primary school leader and roles as a system leader, SLE, and ELE, supporting professional learning and school improvement in schools and trusts across the country. She has collaborated with organisations such as the DfE, Ofsted, and the Church of England Education Department, contributing to initiatives like the design of NPQs.
Her current doctoral research at UCL Institute of Education builds on her passion for Religious Education and its transformative potential. Her thesis focuses on the impact of a worldviews approach to Religious Education, particularly on how pupils develop awareness of their own perspectives and those of others. She exploring how children perceive and understand worldviews—both personal and external—through their Religious Education experiences.
A key feature of her research is the use of visual methods, such as analysing children’s drawings, which offer a unique and insightful way to capture young pupils’ perspectives. By incorporating these innovative methodologies, her research seeks to examine how Religious Education can foster critical thinking, empathy, and social awareness, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and informed approach to teaching worldviews in primary schools.
She has previously published research with organisations including The British Council and the Chartered College of Teaching, and remains actively engaged in sharing her findings at conferences and events nationwide.
