Mary Lou Byrne

 

 

I am Director of Learning for Humanities at Nidderdale High School in North Yorkshire. I teach RE and also lead the local NATRE-affiliated group for RE teachers in North Yorkshire (Harrogate and surrounding areas). I have recently become a member of the North Yorkshire SACRE, which is a role I am incredibly excited about.

I applied for the Leadership Scholarship programme because I would like the opportunity to learn from experienced leaders and mentors from the RE community. This will enable me to give back to the wider RE community, which has inspired me on such a significant scale.

I am strongly passionate about providing a space in the curriculum for young people to reflect on their own worldviews and those around them. I am particularly passionate about identifying effective practices that enable all young people to engage critically with scholarship and explore a multidisciplinary curriculum, rooted in lived experience.
