Khadija Mahir

I’m based in London and currently teach at Wessex Gardens Primary School, where I lead R.E. and work across the curriculum in a diverse and vibrant school community.
I applied for the Leadership Scholarship Programme because I am passionate about strengthening the profile of R.E. in primary education and would like to develop my leadership skills further to drive meaningful change. I’m excited about the opportunity to learn from others and contribute to a national conversation on the future of R.E.
I am passionate about making R.E. a subject where all children feel represented, respected and inspired. I believe R.E. is about nurturing curiosity, encouraging dialogue, and helping pupils make sense of themselves and others in an increasingly interconnected world. I wish to drive R.E. that fosters deep thinking, empathy, and appreciation of diversity—skills that are essential for thriving in our multicultural society and for building more cohesive, understanding communities.
