Project Grants

The next deadline for applications is Tuesday 23rd September at 11.59pm.

We encourage you to contact our Grants, Governance and Partnerships Manager, Julia Minnear by emailing julia@cstg.org.uk for a conversation before submitting your application.

About our project grants

We welcome applications for small, new, innovative projects that are looking for seed funding, as well as applications for larger projects or initiatives which support the Trust’s vision and strategic objectives. Our maximum grant award is £30,000. We run three grant rounds per year, typically in September, January and April.

Your project must align with one or more of our strategic objectives:

  • Promoting positive public perception and understanding of religion and worldviews education
  • Influencing governments’ policies in supporting a high-quality religion and worldviews education, including the implementation of a National Plan in England
  • Advocating for the importance of high-quality religion and worldviews education within the education world
  • Empowering the current and next generation of religion and worldviews education teachers and leaders
  • Fostering and nurturing collaborative partnerships within the religion and worldviews education community.

If you are thinking of applying, please check our eligibility page for further guidance before proceeding. You may also wish to view a list of our current and past grant funded projects here.

Focus areas 2025-2026

Whilst Culham St Gabriel’s welcomes project grant applications from all those working in the field of religion and worldviews, this year we are particularly interested in supporting projects which focus on RWE in relation to:

  • Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • Artificial Intelligence (e.g. use of generative AI, pedagogical models, ethical and moral questions)
  • Supporting and equipping religion and worldviews teachers who have other specialisms (TWOS)
  • Supporting teachers and leaders from under-represented groups particularly those from UK Minority Ethnic or Global Majority Heritage backgrounds.

Please note: While we highlight these focus areas, we continue to welcome applications for other types of projects that align with our broader strategic objectives. If your project falls outside these themes but supports our vision, we encourage you to apply.

Who can apply?

We welcome applications from freelancers, organisations, charities, and corporate bodies. If you’re unsure about your eligibility, please get in touch.

How much can we apply for?

You can apply for up to £30,000. In the past year, grants have ranged from £2,500 to £30,000. If you are seeking more than £30,000, please contact us to discuss your proposal and consider match-funding options. Please see our page Other Sources of Funding.

What types of projects do you fund?

We fund projects that support and advance religion and worldviews education, particularly as a school curriculum subject. This includes both small-scale, innovative ideas seeking seed funding and larger initiatives that align with our strategic objectives.

Projects we fund typically aim to:

  • Improve public understanding and perception of religion and worldviews education
  • Influence education policy, including contributing to a National Plan for England
  • Advocate for the subject within the wider education sector
  • Support and empower teachers and leaders in religion and worldviews education
  • Build collaborative partnerships across the community

We are especially interested in projects that are innovative, evidence-informed, and have the potential for wider impact.

Please also check our Eligibility page for further guidance along with details on what we’re unable to fund.

How do we apply?

Our application process has two stages:

  1. Stage 1: Submit a short Expression of Interest form (linked below).
  2. Stage 2: If shortlisted, you’ll be invited to complete a full application and have a support conversation with our Grants Manager.

You’ll typically have 2 weeks to complete Stage 2. Final decisions are made by our Grants Committee or Full Board, usually within 6-10 weeks of the deadline.

If your Stage 1 application is not accepted or is held, you’ll be notified approximately one week after the deadline.

We also ask you to complete a short questionnaire about your organisation and the people your project supports – this helps us better understand our applicants and how we can make our processes more equitable.

Can we talk to someone about our project idea?

We welcome conversations about potential projects throughout the year. Please contact our Grants, Governance and Partnerships Manager, Julia Minnear, by emailing  julia@cstg.org.uk to arrange an informal chat.
