Christopher Mooney

I am a Deputy Headteacher working in a two-form entry Church of England primary school in the north of Gloucestershire surrounded by the rolling Cotswold hills. I arrived at my current school as an NQT in 2017 and I have thoroughly enjoyed working to help the school grow and evolve its curriculum so that children develop their understanding of the world. For the last four years, I have led RE across my school and now in addition to this role, I work as our Trust’s Lead Practitioner for RE supporting schools across the county and I am also a member of our local SACRE.
I applied for the Leadership Programme out of a desire to connect with the world of RE beyond my locality and deepen my own leadership in this area. The opportunity that this programme presents is one that I know will benefit me personally and professionally, but I am certain that it will also enhance the RE teaching and learning of others in my school and beyond as a result of the leadership and support that I will be able to provide. Culham St Gabriel is an organisation that makes a positive impact for teachers and learners and so I cannot wait to begin to work closely with them.
I am passionate about the way RE allows children to explore and investigate the worldview of people around them and their own personal worldviews. I believe that learning about what influences, inspires and transforms others through the world of RE will allow children to access opportunities, relationships and communities in their future that they might never have known. Great RE has the power to develop a person’s understanding certainly, but it also has the power to transform a person’s view of the world and that it is an incredible thing.
